After Guru Santiraksita unsuccessfully attempted to introduce Mahayana Buddhism into Tibet on the invitation of Tibetan King Trisongdetsen, Guru Padmasambhava (The Lotus Born) successfully introduced Tantric Buddhism in the Siddha tradition, which mixed with indigenous Tibetan Bon-Po Shamanism (8th Century CE). Vajramukti was already present in Tibet.

The UK Sangha practices as an Indo-Tibetan Kinetic-Tantra Martial-Yana in acknowledgement and respect to both Hindu & Buddhist traditions. It also acknowledges that the Lion's Roar! Art has always adapted and changed according to local cultural conditions, and that these changes continue in the contemporary western world. Accordingly, the UK Sangha continues to evolve its martial practices through the pressure testing paradigms of street-reality and sport mixed-martial-arts whilst maintaining its core Indo-Tibetan martial and cultural roots.
